Healthy Living With Type 1 Diabetes Diabetes, Insulin Sensitivity And Apple Cider VinegarOver the past year plus, I’ve incorporated apple cider vinegar into my diet and I absolutely  love it and here’s why!   Apple cider vinegar benefits are plentiful. Its wide-ranging uses include everything from curing hiccups to alleviating cold symptoms, and some people have turned to apple cider vinegar to help fight high blood sugars, heart problems, high cholesterol, and weight issues.  It’s effective for pretty much anything—your skin, your hair, your house, and even your pets can benefit from its qualities. Raw, organic, unfiltered and unpasteurized, apple cider vinegar is so much more than a salad dressing!

Alkalize Your Body With Apple Cider Vinegar:

There’s that word again, Alkalize! Some alternative practitioners recommend using apple cider vinegar to restore a healthy alkaline/acid balance. The theory behind the alkaline diet is that our blood is slightly alkaline (with a normal pH level of between 7.35 and 7.45) and that our diet should reflect this pH level. A diet high in acid-producing foods leads to lack of energy, excessive mucous production, infections, anxiety, irritability, headache, sore throat, nasal and sinus congestion, allergic reactions, and increased risk of conditions such as arthritis and gout.

Despite being an acidic solution, apple cider vinegar has an alkalizing effect on the body. As such, one to two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in water as a daily health solution to help alkalize your body.

ACV For Heartburn:

Apple cider vinegar can also be very helpful in reducing gas and bloating. Just take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar diluted in water or tea before a meal. It can also help alleviate symptoms of heartburn. Take a dose as soon as you feel heartburn symptoms coming on.

ACV And Blood Sugars:

It’s not completely known what the mechanism is in ACV that wards off certain ailments, but apple cider vinegar is highly acidic; the main ingredient is acetic acid, which slows the digestion of starch. In a study in Diabetes Care – a journal of the American Diabetes Association, it was found that Apple Cider Vinegar improved Insulin Sensitivity to a high-carbohydrate meal in subjects with Insulin Resistance or Type 2 diabetes. In the study, there were three classifications of subjects: diabetics, pre-diabetics, and normal blood sugar individuals.

All 3 groups in the study had improved blood glucose readings after taking two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar prior to two meals per day. The pre-diabetic group showed the strongest benefit from apple cider vinegar, with a 50% drop in blood glucose after each meal. The subjects already diagnosed with diabetes improved their blood glucose levels by 25% by following this procedure. The researchers concluded that organic apple cider vinegar was just as effective as metformin, a drug used to treat Type 2 diabetes. If you are not yet a Type 2 diabetic, this could help you considerably. There are limited studies regarding metformin and apple cider vinegar together; some physicians have recommended taking both, but several hours apart. Again, please consult your physician if you have diabetes symptoms prior to embarking on an alternative cure.

Apple Cider Vinegar For Weight Loss:Healthy Living With Type 1 Diabetes Diabetes, Insulin Sensitivity And Apple Cider Vinegar

I’ll be perfectly honest, over the past 3 months I’ve added acv to 24 ounces of water and have used this as my pre-workout beverage and I’ve currently lost 13 pounds. Coincidence?  Maybe, but many individuals claim that Apple Cider Vinegar helps promote weight loss by speeding up the metabolism as well as suppressing your appetite and giving you a sense satiety.

A suggested remedy is to mix 2 teaspoons of the vinegar into a glass of water and drink this before every meal or sip it slowly throughout the day.  As for me using it while I workout?  I absolutely love it.  I get an energy boost while at the gym all while adding some serious nutrition to my diet.

ACV For Varicose Veins:

Apple cider vinegar is great for varicose veins because it improves circulation in the vein wall and helps to ease the bulging and swelling vein so it is less noticeable and less painful. Combine equal parts ACV and your favorite lotion. Apply morning and night to varicose veins in a circular motion until absorbed. Depending on the severity of your varicose veins, you should begin to see improvement within a month (I will be trying this by the way!).
