Why Go Organic!
As diabetics we should ALL be making sure we are living a healthy lifestyle and that not only includes the foods that we are putting into our bodies, but also the personal care products that we use everyday. Products such as shampoo, conditioners, hand soaps, what we wash our clothes with, moisturizers for our skin just to name a few and that’s how The Organic Diabetic and Essante Organics can show you healthier alternatives. Unless its certified organic, chances are you are putting toxic chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides and growth hormones into your body…never a good thing for your health!
Per the United States Department Of Agriculture (USDA), Organic certification verifies that your farm or handling facility located anywhere in the world complies with the USDA organic regulations and allows you to sell, label, and represent your products as organic. These regulations describe the specific standards required for you to use the word “organic” or the USDA organic seal on food, feed, or fiber products. The USDA National Organic Program administers these regulations, with substantial input from its citizen advisory board and the public. So what are these standards that make organic foods to much healthier and what does that seal mean?
What Does The Seal Mean?
The organic standards describe the specific requirements that must be verified by a USDA-accredited certifying agent before products can be labeled USDA organic. Overall, organic operations must demonstrate that they are protecting natural resources, conserving biodiversity, and using only approved substances. A brief summary is provided below.
- The USDA organic seal verifies that irradiation, sewage sludge, synthetic fertilizers, prohibited pesticides, and genetically modified organisms were not used.
- The USDA organic seal verifies that producers met animal health and welfare standards, did not use antibiotics or growth hormones, used 100% organic feed, and provided animals with access to the outdoors.
Organic Multi-Ingredient Foods.
- The USDA organic seal verifies that the product has 95% or more certified organic content. If the label claims that it was made with specified organic ingredients, you can be sure that those specific ingredients are certified organic.
